5 out of 5 stars My 14 month old loves these toys   July 9, 2010
Akaijen
We picked up a car and a purple hippo at our local toy shop. My 14m daughter loves for me to send these toys racing across our kitchen floor. They are also a nice size for small hands, and the smooth wood has a really nice feel to them. My daughter loves to carry them around.

They're a very simple, novelty type toy with a basic pull back mechanism. I wouldn't get these if you're expecting real racing cars. The store where I bought them, had them in bins with walking and hopping wind-up toys.

They do contain Hotwheels-sized wheels and axles, so definitely wouldn't give to a young toddler unsupervised. We keep these toys out of my daughter's reach and only play with them with her.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, Fast-Moving Little Race Cars   February 3, 2010
goonius (a room in a house on a street in a city just like any other.)
We bought a few of these cars to include as party favors for our children's birthday party, and in case you're wondering, yes you can find them at a better price; maybe about 2/3 what they're offered for here.

In any case, this was our second purchase from the 'Activity Series' by Plan Toys; our cat received two of the mice in her stocking this year, and they were really the stars of the show Christmas morning, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with these guys.

The racing cars are very cute. I'd estimate them to be about 2.5" to 3" long, with the vehicles being water-based stained wood. The wooden heads of the little passengers are attached with a sturdy spring, and they bobble about as the car zips along. They are quite fast, though I think the 4-wheel design slows them a bit in comparison to the two-wheeled design of the mice, who seem to be even faster. However, it's hard to orchestrate a proper race. For some reason all of the three cars we own (one of each color), veer in one direction when released, and because they don't go in a straight line, it's difficult to plan a clear path for them. They often end up stalled by a piece of furniture or a wall that ends up in their path as they veer to the right, kind of making a semi-circle path.

Because I have two of the mice to compare them to, I simply couldn't give the race cars the 5-star rating the mice have earned, though I like the cars a great deal in spite of their unusual tendency to avoid the straight and narrow. However, if I had to choose between the cars and the mice, it would be the mice - definitely. The mice are nominally faster, travel in a straighter line, and honestly seem to have a bit more appeal in terms of aesthetics, and as a role-play figure with my children. Also, the mice drive our cat bonkers, she loves them. My daughter, who asked specifically for race cars for her birthday, still prefers the mice.

Nonetheless, if you're looking for a inexpensive, safe, environmentally responsible, simple toy, any of these little pull-back vehicles will fit the bill.

4 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled! There is only one!   December 3, 2009

Though there are 3 cars shown in the picture, the price is for just one! I ordered this, thinking i was gonna get 3 of the cute little guys for my nephew, and only recieved one in the mail. I admit the car is cute, but for that price, one tiny little pullback-and-zoom car is just a rip-off!
To be fair, i did contact the seller and they did their best to make it right. The car is very cute and works well. It definitely stands up to abuse, after watching my nephew throw it, race it, put it in his mouth (he's only 1 yrs old), etc.

1 out of 5 stars feel cheated   April 8, 2010

The package contains only a small car. I thought it should be three cars altogether, but I was not allowed to choose colors beforehand. I don't know why the seller put a picture with three different color cars online, then I assumed that I should be able to get three of them. If they only provide one, they should let me choose the color I like. I feel so cheated!

The delivery is slow, too. I ordered the same brand toy from Amazon at the same time, and they were delivered three days ago!
